Overweight and obesity is easily defined with the aid of the BMI (Body Mass Index) which is calculated with the aid of body weight and body height and is expressed in kg/m2. For BMI values between 18.5 and 24.9 body weight is normal, between 25.0 and 29.9 is overweight and for BMI values of 30.0 or more is obese. The higher the BMI you have, the higher are the risks of various complications.
